Full day through Tupungato and Tunuyán, Mendoza's highest vineyards, with a visit to Bodega Piedra Negra and a stop at Manzano Histórico.

The Uco Valley is where the wines that put Mendoza on the world map are made: vineyards more than a thousand meters above sea level, at the foot of the Andes, with big day-night temperature swings and snowmelt water. We leave early heading south along the farming corridor. In Tupungato we drive the Ruta de los Cerrillos, pass the Cristo Rey del Valle and watch the landscape fill up with vineyards and orchards, with the mountains always ahead. The main visit is Bodega Piedra Negra, a French-founded winery and one of those that drove the valley's growth. You walk through the vineyards and the winemaking area, and there's an optional tasting. Then we continue to Tunuyán and Manzano Histórico, the place where General San Martín returned from Chile, today a monument in the middle of the mountains. We head back to Mendoza as the afternoon ends.
